III - THE REFLECTIONS OF PAIX LITURGIQUE

1) 4 days, 7 liturgical talks, 4 solemn ceremonies, 3 cardinals and 2 archbishops: these are the notable figures of this most important September Roman event. 10 years since its promulgation, everyone agrees that Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum is one of the key components of Pope Benedict XVI's legacy. Some may wish to see Pope Francis or Pope Benedict himself taking part in this anniversary celebration, but, if we recall the situation in 2006 of the Traditional Latin Mass, now called the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite, we should all rejoice and thank God for this wonderful gift to the Church.

2) It's a great joy to see that Cardinal Sarah has confirmed his participation in an event exclusively linked to the celebration of the usus antiquior. Although he will not be celebrating a liturgy, he will be presenting an important talk, as he has done at Sacra Liturgia London in 2016 and at the 18th Cologne Liturgical Conference last March, where liturgies are celebrated utroque usu, that is to say, in both forms of the Roman Rite.

3) We anticipate a huge participation of Italian pilgrims on Saturday 16, September 2017, since Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, long-time interpreter of St. John Paul II teachings on the family, will celebrate Holy Mass in St. Peter's Basilica. When he was Archbishop of Bologna, Cardinal Caffarra supported his priests who wished to follow Summorum Pontificum and made provision for restoring communion on the tongue in the major basilicas of his archdiocese. He is also one of the signatories of the Dubia and doesn't fear to speak up when necessary.

4) In Saint Peter's, Maestro Aurelio Porfiri -- editor of Altare Dei, a very interesting liturgical online magazine -- will direct a Mass which he will specially compose for the occasion. This bold initiative aims to show that the ancient Roman liturgy is more alive than ever and always capable of offering new artistic and spiritual treasures to the Universal Church.

5) As one of the two sponsors, we would like to point out the social moment that will be offered to the clergy on Saturday 16, September 2017, right after the Mass in St. Peter's. Last year we organized such an event for the first time and it was a much appreciated moment of Christian fellowship. The location, Palazzo Cesi, on top of Via della Conciliazione, is pleasant and is close to St. Peter’s Basilica but space is limited: hence, dear Fathers, please do register (it's free and easy) by using this form. This year, we'll welcome you together with the FIUV (International Una Voce Federation) which is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its foundation.
